We are pleased to announce our second title featuring the colour photography of Jim Guerin

Steam Encounters in Ontario vol. 1 continues the series which starts with Steam Encounters at Montreal. This title was released on April 8, 2021.

Presenting 35mm colour transparencies from the 1950s in print requires extensive digital restoration and enhancement. To that end, we staged an international contest whereby the most talented graphics designers in the world could submit their efforts with Guerin’s images. From dozens of submissions, we have entrusted Steam Encounters in Ontario vol. 1 to the BEST of those designers.

As with Steam Encounters at Montreal, the new softbound Steam Encounters in Ontario vol. 1 unfolds as an adventure. This one is staged over the years 1954 and 1955.

There is a mystique in an encounter—it evokes adventure, fleeting experiences, insights, revelations.

Steam Encounters in Ontario vol. 1 is replete with unplanned, unexpected and brief meetings with steam and diesel locomotives, passenger and freight trains, Canadian National and Canadian Pacific, in 1954 and 1955.

The sample pictures and the videos on this page give you hints as to the subjects we will chance upon, the face-to-face meetings with steam locomotives—and a few diesels—on the stage of the dying years of classic North American railway operations.

Page by page, spread by spread, experience by experience, you will savour  encounters with the best the era and the southern Ontario railway setting can offer through the lens of your talented photographer.

Steam Encounters in Ontario vol. 1 is your chronicle of chance meetings with the locomotives, trains, railway lines and settings of 1954 and 1955 you cherish. Discover the wonders of the era through these 48 glossy pages!

As with all of our titles, Steam Encounters in Ontario vol. 1 is printed and bound where it appropriately should be—by dedicated family-run businesses in the province of Ontario, Canada.
